First Mobility in Rome

Tolerance for Migrant Communities 12-19 December 2019

Five teachers from each of the three partner countries involved in the project travelled to Roma. The fourth partner,I.E.S Pablo Ruiz Picasso, as previously communicated denied participation and dropped the the project on approval. Many students and teachers as well as the principal of the host school participated in the activities that were carried out during the mobility.
All partners attended usual lessons and workshops at the host school as well as activities specifically prepared for the mobility where they shared information about their schools and worked in mixed teams to research into the main topic of the mobility. They worked on:

  • some ice-breaking activities: welcome ceremony, a brief Introductory Italian language lesson, some games, the personal history of some of the Immigrant students attending school at ITIS GIOVANNI XXIII who spoke about their experience of integration.

  • presentation about schools and countries.

  • presentation about the current state of immigrant integration in each school and sharing views about inclusion policies.

  • discussing about problems and solutions in order to redifine the distribution of tasks originally assigned to the Spanish partner, implement the e-twinning platform and assign duties and responsibilities to each country to create a digital story .

  • a three hour WORKSHOP to approach to the problems of immigrants in our schools. We hosted a NGO partner NOUS (http://www.nousngo.eu) whose mission is culture and intercultural dialogue with youngsters and adult people. The shared task was : OPEN SOCIETY vs CLOSED SOCIETY
    *a DAY in Tor Sapienza- MAAM : The Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove, or the Museum of the Other and the Elsewhere. Contemporary & street artists, but also a squat and home to around 200 people, many of them migrants who arrived in Rome in search of a better life. Although MAAM is only open to the public on Saturdays nwe managed to enter Metropoliz on a thursday ,meet families with children, hailing from all around the world,from places such as Peru, Romania, the Ukraine and Morocco, often refer to themselves as ‘Metropoliziani’, highlighting the sense of community afforded to them by this space. Here we also shared a lunch specifically prepared by the different communities a melting pot of experiences and ethnical cuisine.

  • Visit to the Artists’ Studios in Via Alecce. Palazzo Castelli: Collecting the past, its memory and return it to the public through a continuum of artistic research on the ”vision’ that takes over and continues the journey
    *Meeting Sant’Egidio – A Community without borders or walls. St Egidio is a worldwide movement of lay people, based on prayer, solidarity, ecumenism, dialogue. They fight poverty and aid immigrants. We experienced and learnt about the ”New Martyrs of the 20th & 21st Centuries” in Basilica of St. Bartolomeo all’Isola.

Second Mobility in Rome

1st day – two teams came in R ome to join the final mibility of the project in stead of Spain which got out of the project: Romanian team and greek team , while Turkey chose to have a virtual mobility.


The first day we had the first day of activity at school , presentation of the topic as the focus of the mobility, “the Drama” as a method of integration at school.
the presentation was concentrated on the role of Drama , general observation on about it works as teaching method in apprentship and integration of immigrants at school. Some association were reported and referred inside the presentation in evaluating the activities which can substain together with school, the integration of immigrants.
After lunch all the three teams went to visit one of the most important Italian association which operates on the territory ” CARITAS” whose purpose differed during the years since its birth. One of them is the cooperation with other associations whose supports towards immigrants and refugees is remarkable.

2nd day – the teams went around the main historical sites of the Capitol City,
the visit of the day was Saint angel Castle. It was a very interesting and documented visit one of the most famous and touristic monument in Rome. The Castle was one of the fortress of the ancient Vatican kingdome, itis known alsoas the Hadrianeum Sepulcrum Antoninorum,

3rd day- the third day the teams came back to our school again for activities linked to the topic of the mobility and drama. The activities are all centered on the role of theatre and dramatization as an efficent practice for integration of refugees and immigrants. After the experimentation of activities led on line and phisically by the teams altogether, we all had the opportunity to meet and interview an ukranian student with her mother, about all the situatin of war the psichological impact of this event them.

4thday – the teams wentto visit one of the most amazing archeological site of the Capitol City, “villa Adriana” it goes back to the Roman Emperor Hadrian it was built and created as a little town inside the Town . the Site is well preserved and is preserved By UNESCO. It combines the best architectural heritage of Egypt, Greece and Romein the form of ideal City.
then after lunch the teams went to visit another famous as uniqe site of ancient time: ” vIlla D’Este”a 16th century villa in Tivoli .

5th day- that was the day of goodbye, of the final greetings and acknowledgments.
we had our final activity creating and brainstorming about a Slogan , through the application Mentimeter, all the teams ( the turkish one on line) we all worked following three indications about hte creation of a slogan, which could give much more stress on the topic of integration.
after we received our last certfication of the mobility and after lunch we say good bye to all the phisical participants

The interesting briefing of our expert Miss Margherita Rampolla Who explained through a vero interesting presentation how our legislation acts about the right of you g refugees and immigrants.
